the bit about me

My best writing teacher used to tell us to "imagine well.” That advice stuck: I reimagined an interview I first heard on NPR as a Pushcart Prize-nominated short story, I envisioned a more comprehensive message to include cross-curriculum lesson plans for two Gold ADDY Award-winning public service campaigns, and I created Front Porch, an online literary journal and community thriving in its 13th year. In 2016, I co-founded Still Life Press, a legacy book publishing company that helps people preserve their life stories, and in 2018, I began co-producing Our One Story, a historical docu-series.

As a writer, I bring a natural ability to find and break stories to each project, always seeking ways to maximize a story's impact. In client-facing roles, I use my experience as an university English instructor to present ideas in engaging ways and to listen deeply to people and organizations so we can get to the heart of their stories. My strengths as a conceptor lie in quickly generating ideas, in strategic research, and in identifying unique value-adds; and as an editor, I'm known for cutting fat without compromising vision. I'm passionate about social purpose, storytelling, and getting it right (books and bikes and Motown, too).
